Ah,
the double album. These are solely the preserve of
self-indulgent prog-rock wankers with more solos than
sense. Except in the case of 'Mellon Collie', and post-rock,
where it's okay. This isn't really an attempt to be
the Shalabi Effect. And definitely not Pink Floyd.
It just happened that the way I recorded I ended up
with about 60 minutes of songs and I didn't wanna make
any more 60-minute CDs, and in any case I didn't wanna
hassle Tina for another cover. So, I held onto the tracks
till i had 28 and 90 minutes (ish). And then Tina didn't
wanna make a cover anyway, cos she claimed to like
this makeshift thing I made out of the same photo I
used for the 'x-ten ep' cover. It's okay, I guess.
I put a couple of these tracks online. I think the
only ones there are 'instrumental' and 'suspect yr
neighbour', both of which got pretty good receptions
among the select few who are bored and/or gullible
enough to spend some time downloading my noodlings.
'instrumental' is a kinda sweet harmonic thing which
ends with what sounds like Mum's pet mice wrestling
inside a metal biscuit tin. And 'suspect your neighbour'
is a simple melody thingy. You know what I mean. It
sounds like Metallica roughly buggering Destiny's Child
while the Aphex Twin throws dancing fish onto them
from a cherry picker. Well, it doesn't. But wouldn't
it be cool if it DID?
This CD sees the return of loud bits. But they're all
in 'taking', which I helpfully put as the final track
so you can stop it before you hear it. Yay!
This is one of the very few CDs I've done where I bothered
to come up with an album title instead of just taking
one of the track titles. But hey, I figured you could
have fun trying to find out what the concept is. Art,
dude.
Random facts: 'long drifting' is my favourite. 'burnt'
is a reprise of 'pretty burn' played backwards. There
is a secret track at the end of the first CD! ClichÈ-tastic!
