This CD had been omitted from the site for a long time because of its secretive nature. The 'lost' recording, if you will. Well, it wasn't lost, exactly. This CD was the first time I'd made a CD entirely for Tina, and many hours of painstaking effort went into the choice of songs, recording, and more specifically the fucking cover, which took ages because as well as the front and back covers I made an insert with more pictures and inlay for the CD tray itself, all printed on shiny paper and glued together by hand in a long session which felt like a nightmare episode of Art Attack. You can see the front cover here and the back cover (the only one of the pics on the CD which I shot myself) over here. The pictures all come from myself and Tina's romantic jaunt to Blackpool in November 2002, that front cover is a field passing us by as we travelled there by coach. It has sheep and everything.

So, the songs themselves were all reworkings of enough rope songs, except for two covers. Opener 'this is?' is a short reprise of 'is this?', 'bob kolody part 2' is self-explanatory, and 'everything else is nothing' is an extended version of that song from the album of the same name, which contains tiny elements of 'territory'. The one mp3 I decided to share is a long version of 'comfortflows' spliced with 'is this?', two early enough rope songs which are in the same key. Haha! It has a couple of original bits in, too, and I like it a lot. The two covers were chosen for Tina because I know she likes both bands. 'jackie says' is a song by Japanese post-rockers Mono which I sort of didn't really do justice to, while 'green grass of tunnel' by Icelandic tronica folks Múm is one of Tina's favourite songs, reimagined here as a dark 7-minute guitar dirge instead of the cheery, fairy-voiced original.

I made the CD as a Christmas '02 present for Tina, and we exchanged gifts on a beautiful night in the Croatian seaside town of Opatija on the 27th of December that year. So, the reason it was left of here was because it was intended as a personal gesture. For that reason, it's not available for anyone else and will remain in its limited edition of two copies. Oh how rare! But, for the sake of completeness and posterity, I decided it needed a page here, and I figured I could throw you, the general public, one mp3 from it. :)

Anyway, all this should tell you, if you don't know already, how much I love Tina and how important she is to everything here. Not just in terms of designing the site, but for inspiring some of the music, being the only person in the world dedicated enough to listen to all of it, and in more general terms, for making me happy enough to bother doing this. As I write this, we've been together over 2 years, and we'll still be together in 50 years when my teeth are falling out and I'm recording wheezing 12-bar blues songs for my 150th solo album and playing harmonica through the gaps in my false teeth. She's more important to enough rope than I am, and I'm going to stop typing this and go and kiss her right now. :)
