This
was the first album to be recorded entirely in one
session, and it took a little over four hours for the
whole thing. The opening track, 'nayirah', was written
and recorded entirely on the spot, and it turned out
really well considering. The album centres around three
lengthy tracks. The difference in sound to other albums,
where there is one, is that this is a looser, scruffier
sound than previous albums. Both 'iao' and 'wordofmouth'
begin with freeform pissing around with no respect
for timing. Cool. The title 'iao' was inspired by the
Information Awarness Office, an official US organisation
set up the government and headed by Contragate criminal
John Poindexter with the purpose of spying on people
to combat 'terrorism'. Interesting fact: 'IAO', using
the ancient Hebrew method of Kabbalistic translation,
means 'Satan', and composer John Zorn titled an album
'IAO' for this reason, although I only found this out
after I'd named my track. So, yeah, the main theme of
this is bigger, longer, looser, less tracks. The title
track is the only one you can download so far, but
I like it even if you don't. :P But I'm really happy
with this album considering how quickly it all came
about and that 'trained animals' was the only one fully
written before I sat down to record it. So there. |
