This
is something I'd always wanted to do, a kind of live improvisation.
Having got hold of a cool pedal which I used for 'The Broken
Watch Chase Dream', I took the opportunity to try it. So,
on the 13th January 2007 I sat down just after 2pm, hit records,
and just started playing. Having finished this, essentially
a version of the aforementioned song, before I finished that
song itself, some of the stuff in it ended up informing the
way that ended up.
Anyway, it's just me, a guitar, the Marshall EH-1 Echohead
pedal, a mic, my voice (whistling, singing and groaning),
remote controls, an optical mouse and a brief appearance by
the FM3 Buddha Machine. I love playing this way; having spent
most of my recent years recording in bits and pieces, it felt
great to just go into that trance-like kinda state where you
just get lost in what you're doing. So in that context, 49
minutes didn't feel like much. The end result is a kind of
droning, ambient concoction which might lull you to sleep,
bar the microphone bits which are maybe a little unsettling.
Oh yeah, and instead of a photograph/jewel case cover, this
comes housed in a handmade black card thing modelled on those
Constellation Records releases. Except more amateur, in what
is perhaps an all-too-fitting metaphor for Enough Rope as
a whole.
Anyway, click to see the front
cover, and what it looks like when you peek
inside.
